People’s Book Prize –

I have just been awarded the Beryl Bainbridge Award for Best First Time Author with Turn of the Tide as part of the People’s Book Prize! Very chuffed.

With thanks to all who voted and especially who commented on Turn of the Tide’s Book Page. It is the comments that I’ll remember when the competition itself is old news.

And for anyone who did comment – if you have read the whole book I’d be really grateful if you could cut and paste your comments onto Amazon as a review – please don’t if you’ve only read part of it – in fairness to folk browsing on Amazon.

People’s Book Prize Final

At long last! Voting is open in the People’s Book Prize final. Turn of the Tide is one of 12 finalists in the fiction section – scary stuff. The voting will close at 10.00am (BST) on Wednesday 28th and the winners will be declared that evening at a ceremony in Stationers’ Hall.

Wish me luck!

And here’s the link for anyone who might like to have a look / vote. To read the excerpt click on the book image, and then the ‘read extract’ link. And if you enjoy it, please do vote.

The People’s Book Prize – Finalist!

Whoohoo! Turn of the Tide is through to the finals of voting has closed for the moment, but there will be another round of voting between the 21st and 29th May 2014. Watch this space for a reminder…

In the meantime, please visit the site and read some of the fabulous comments readers have left for me there.

I am grateful for them all, but if I was going to confess to a personal favourite it would be:

A beautifully written and hauntingly eloquent novel set amidst a turbulent landscape as wild as the characters that inhabit it. ‘Turn of the Tide’, brought the beauty and savagery of Scotland right into my living room, I simply couldn’t put it down. A wonderful read, highly recommended!

How encouraging is that…
